Note: Nothing in this standard supercedes
applicable laws and regulations.
Note: In the event of conflict between the
English and domestic language, the English language shall take
precedence.
Purpose. This standard is used for the
semi-quantitative determination of emissions for interior materials
via Headspace-Gas Chromatograph - Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). With
the emission spectra:
• Emissions of interior materials can be compared
• Resultant emissions can be identified
• Relative emissions can be calculated
• Substances with regard to GMW3059 can be identified
Foreword. The test defined in this standard is
designed to evaluate the "emission" tendencies of all interior and
air ventilation system materials. The resulting rating "Relative
Emission" influenced by the volatile organic constituents,
liberated under conditions of high ambient temperatures and
subsequently stays in the interior air, is determined.
Applicability. All interior parts including
HVAC ducts, trunk trim, and insulation having an air flow to the
interior are included under this standard. For clarification refer
to the responsible GM material engineer. All parts having an air
flow to the interior with an area of gt; 50 cm² or a weight of
gt; 10 g shall be tested.
For parts that are lt; 50 cm² or have a weight lt; 10
g, but that will be used several times in a vehicle the following
rule applies: The area or the weight of the part has to be
multiplied by the number of parts. If the resulting weight is
gt; 10 g or the area is gt; 50 cm² the part shall be
tested.
The results will provide complementary information to GMW15634
and GMW3205.
