It gives a recommended framework for the effective management of returnable containers to maximize utilization and minimize costs for all users. Guided by the principle of eliminating waste in all activities, the container management practices recommended in this standard represent a compilation of input from experienced practitioners that may prove beneficial in establishing new or expanded returnable container programs or for assessing existing programs. The purpose of this standard is to provide the reader with a guideline for effectively managing a returnable container inventory required to transport the variety of materials moving between suppliers and customers.
